SPECFEM for HPC on GPU and Cell BE
Traductions de l'article :
En Bref
The SPECFEM code is based on a spectral-element technique developed to solve the seismic wave equation ; started in 1999, it is now open source (GNU GPL v2).
It has run on many supercomputers, among which the Earth Simulator (Japan, Gordon Bell Award 2003), the MareNostrum (Barcelona, Spain), and the current biggest machine : Ranger (Austin, Texas), and was fine-tuned over the years. In order to follow the latest trends in high performance computing, we have ported the code on peculiar architectures : the Cell Broadband Engine as well as GPUs using the CUDA toolkit.
We will present a brief review of the porting of the computational kernel on both architectures, and in the case of GPGPU, how we interlaced it with MPI (message passing interface) communications to benefit from GPU clusters that are currently being built.
